Chris Arkwright

Created by Clare 9 years ago
Chris Arkwright was a founder member of Christ The King Parish and lived in the Parish for most of his life. As a boy he was an altar server and was one of the first parishioners to become a Eucharistic Minister. He was a governor of Christ the Kind Primary School and served as chairman of the governing body for a number of years. He was also committed to reaching out to less fortunate members of the community; firstly by opening up his hoe to people in need of help and then by becoming the driving force behind the foundation and development of Homeless in Blackpool and the opening of Vincent House as a home for the homeless. Chris worked tirelessly as manager of Vincent House for many years and helped many people who otherwise would have had no safe place to live. Even though he was ill for many years, he was still greatly involved in the parish and enthusiastically supported the move to the lovely new church. The week the church opened in July Chris had been in hospital but was allowed home and was able to attend the very first Mass. He was also able to attend the Inaugural Mass on 11th September. The last job Chris did for the Church was to write the history of the parish which is a lasting legacy for all of the parishioners. Chris’s requiem Mass took place on Wednesday 15th September and it was the first funeral to take place in the new church. Chris leaves his devoted wife, children Paul, Suzanne and Clare and grand children Christopher, Katy, Kaley, Nathan, Sophie & Zachary. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends but his legacy will live on.
